Evarest Mboya
Evarest is from the Chagga tribe and was born in the foothills of Mount
Kilimanjaro. The village where he grew up was close to a river that runs
from the mountain and there were always lots of baboons and vervet monkeys
playing. From a young age, the animals near his village fascinated Evarest
and he would spend all his free time watching the behaviour of these creatures.
He mapped out his career path with the same organizational skills he applies
to his safaris. He knew that the first step was to learn about driving
and before that, to learn about motor vehicles themselves. He asked his
father to send him to the Arusha Technical College to learn mechanics
so he would have more confidence with the vehicles he would drive. Then
he began his wildlife training, gaining a certificate in wildlife management
and an advanced certificate in tour guiding. He also has completed substantial
course work in wildlife conservation.
Evarest then gained experience working as a driver guide in both Tanzania
and Kenya before joining Africa Dream Safaris. During his time in the
bush, he has observed many interesting anti-predatory defences by several
species of herbivores. He recalls watching a mother Thomson’s gazelle
confuse a hyena to keep it from attacking her newborn. He has seen a herd
of buffalo join together to chase off a large pride of lions. He has even
seen a warthog surrounded by a pride of lions escape just in time down
a deep burrow.
His favorite animal is the giraffe. He admires the giraffe for its grace
and elegance when running even though it is the tallest mammal in the
African bush.
