Small and intimate, with open interiors and airy spaces lit with sunshine, Olonana is the perfect retreat away from it all. Perched in an ideal location, directly on the banks of the famous Mara River, this luxury camp offers serene views of the river from the comfort of your room's private veranda.
Watch hippos bob in the dark waters below, and notice the various species of birds as they flit through the shady canopy of trees. As you watch the slow drift of the Mara river, time seems to slow down here and troubles fade away like distant memories. Soothing shades of ivory and pleasing hues of tangerine are splashed throughout the interior spaces, framed in structures of various texture such as polished woods, smooth canvas and rough stone. Every exquisite detail of this lodge is designed to create a feeling of beauty, peace and solitude.
The small size of this camp, with only 12 luxury accommodations, means that each guest has personalized service and maximum flexibility. Tents are spaced apart to provide maximum privacy and solitude. You are completely at your own pace at Olonana. Activities include game drives in open vehicles by day or night or even guided nature walks. In addition to wildlife viewing, take this opportunity to visit a nearby Maasai Village and learn about their people and culture. Olonana is actually named after one of the Maasai People's legendary warriors.
Situated on the western border of the Maasai Mara National Reserve in southwestern Kenya, Olonana is perched on the banks of the Mara River. Situated on the very edge of the pristine Mara Triangle, Kichwa Tembo offers supreme game viewing opportunities away from most of the other lodges that dominate the more heavily touristed Central Mara Plains.
Accommodations at Olonana are comprised of 12 spacious, permanent bush pavilions that are spaced several meters apart along the banks of the Mara River, ensuring maximum privacy and solitude. Each pavilion is draped in canvas with polished hardwood floors and complimented by tasteful area rugs. Each of the two comfortable queen-size beds are romantically draped in mozzie gauze. Plush robes are available for your use in the ensuite bathrooms with showers that are framed in stone. Large, riverview terraces provide the perfect place to soak in the nature all around you. Un-intrusive solar-generated electricity powers the camp, allowing use of a hairdryer (provided) and a place to charge those precious camera batteries. A small wooden writing desk and full length mirror are additional assets that add to the comfort and style of each Pavilion.
