Serengeti / Big Cat Day
Awake to another brilliant morning 'in the bush'! Today your group will head to the Seronera River Valley for your first 'early morning' game drive. The Seronera River game loops offer quality encounters with all 3 species of big cats including lions, cheetahs and leopards. The early morning is the best time to spot the big cats hunting and offers a chance to glimpse the nocturnal predators returning from their nightly hunting forays. Look out for big resident lion prides that base themselves along the river where they ambush their prey when it comes to drink. Seronera is one of the best areas in Africa to find leopards. Keep an eye out for this majestic cat in the branches of trees that dot the banks of the river.
Return to Lodge and sip a sundowner cocktail at the bar before heading to your room for a shower. Consider the dinner buffet for your evening meal. Enjoy a post-dinner drink in the open-air lounge area and listen for lions roaring. Retreat to your comfortable hotel room to record your day's adventures in your safari journal.
Serengeti / Serengeti Lion Project
The main emphasis for your group today will be on The Great Migration - Africa's most amazing wildlife spectacle. The Serengeti is particularly famous for this annual cycle of movements made by wildebeest, zebra, Thomson's gazelle, and eland. The wildebeest, at roughly 1.7 million strong, follow a fairly predictable clock-wise route around the Serengeti ecosystem on a never-ending quest for fresh green grass and water. To witness such a spectacle first hand is nothing short of amazing!
Your group will return to the lodge for a hot lunch followed by an exclusive presentation by the on-site researchers for the Serengeti Lion Project for which ADS is a proud sponsor. Two field biologists, stationed in Seronera 365 days a year to continue this long-term study, will share their first-hand stories about the lions of the Serengeti.
Spend the rest of the afternoon relaxing by the infinity pool as you enjoy the elephants playing in the watering hole nearby. Consider a spa treatment prior to dinner, or enjoy a sundowner as you watch a glorious African sunset melt on the horizon.
Serengeti / Boma Dinner & Maasai Dancing
Enjoy a hot breakfast cooked to order and dine on the alfresco dining terrace overlooking the acacia woodlands. Today some or all members of your group may wish to go on an adventurous game drive through the secluded Western Corridor to see the Grumeti River and Musabi Plains. The Grumeti River is home to some of the biggest crocodiles left anywhere in Africa. Covered in acacia woodlands that support a myriad of herbivores including giraffe and topi antelope, the Musabi Plains are also home to one of the largest concentrations of elephants in the Serengeti.
Head back to the lodge for a specialty Boma dinner in the outdoor restaurant around an enchanting bonfire and evening entertainment by Maasai warriors. The Maasai are a local tribe that continue to live out a very traditional lifestyle. They live off their herds of cattle, sheep, goats, and donkey and are legendary for their independence, physical courage, and their ferocity as warriors. Listen to an exciting Maasai storyteller and watch traditional dancers put on a performance you'll never forget!
Serengeti / Hot Air Balloon Ride
Wake up before sunrise for your group's hot air balloon safari over the Serengeti. From this height you can witness a unique perspective of the untrammeled wilderness below. After landing, you'll be served a traditional champagne toast and a a delicious 'bush breakfast' cooked to order.
This afternoon you'll travel to the depths of a collapsed volcano, the world-famous Ngorongoro Crater! Along the way, your group will tour a Maasai Boma and learn about the fascinating Maasai culture. A bit further down the road, stop by the famous Olduvai Gorge and museum. Learn about archaeology, history and our ancient hominid ancestors at Olduvai Gorge, a canyon carved by water through the southern part of the Serengeti. Its chief claim to fame is the rich treasure-trove of human and animal fossils it has yielded.
End your day at the lovely Ngorongoro Serena Lodge with stunning views and friendly ambience. After freshening up, everyone will meet for dinner to talk over the next day's highlights while overlooking the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater!
Serengeti / Ngorongoro Serena Lodge
Try to be the first visitors in the crater this morning! Descend into the depths of the cauldron and escape into a new safari adventure. From black-maned lions to blushing flamingos to the colossal 'big-tusker' elephants, there are no shortage of wonders to be seen here!
The Ngorongoro Crater is a world heritage site, the world's largest intact volcanic caldera and is commonly referred to as the 8th wonder of the world. The 2,000 feet high walls of the approximately 10 mile wide Crater create a natural amphitheater for the densest populations of large animals anywhere. The Crater is truly awe-inspiring and will surely be one of the highlights of your safari.
Individual members of your party may choose to stay out on game drive all day, or you may return to the Ngorongoro Serena Lodge to enjoy the ample amenities of this comfortable property. Everyone will meet for drinks in the lounge followed by dinner in the main dining room. You will surely feel on top of the world, and being on the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater you won't be far from it!
Ngorongoro Crater / Arusha / Kilimanjaro
Everyone will meet to enjoy a hot breakfast together and admire your final views of the Ngorongoro Crater prior to departing. Swing through Lake Manyara National Park on the way back to Arusha to experience a kaleidoscope of birdlife, butterflies and monkeys.
Members of the group may be interested in stopping by FAME, the Foundation for African Medicine and Education, a charitable organization that provides quality medical care to the local Tanzanians. Alternatively, you may stop by School of St. Jude's, which helps impoverished children in Tanzania to receive a free, high-quality education. ADS is a major financial contributor to support both of these worthy humanitarian projects, and we gladly invite interested guests to learn more about them!
Check into your day room at the Mount Meru Resort to relax, repack and Leave for the airport and say goodbye to your trusted guide(s) who has hosted your private safari adventure. Your group will forever share these special memories of your adventure together in the wild wilderness of Tanzania!
