Serengeti Soroi is a new tented luxury venue in the pristine Western Corridor of the Serengeti National Park, just opening their doors to the public in September of 2010, and introducing a whole new standard of luxury to the Serengeti.
Hidden away in a secluded pocket of isolated wilderness, Soroi is perched on a high sweep of sand and rock that overlooks an untrammeled acacia forest and rusty-gold grasslands. The location of Serengeti Soroi is nothing short of MAGNIFICENT! The Lodge is a CELEBRATION of VIEWS! Staggering, jaw-dropping, stunning views. All guest chalets, as well as the main lodge, are perched on the misty precipice of a steep bluff that overlooks the pristine Musabi and Ndaho Plains below.
These plains stretch out to the horizon like an expansive canvas filled with life. Watch for giraffe, elephant, buffalo and other animals speckled into the distant hills and woodlands amid ever changing patterns of light, shadow and color as the sun changes its mood throughout the day. This area is also a major migration route for large herds of migratory wildebeest and zebra during certain times of the year.
With its primarily open air design and expansive outdoor living spaces, it's obvious that great care was taken offer Soroi's guests the most unobstructed, sweeping panoramic views possible of the great African wilderness below. And the results are indeed stunning! But once you catch your breath from the views, you can look around the lodge itself and continue to be astounded by the beauty of the facilities around you!
With great care given to design and decor, Soroi manages to capture the rugged essence and earthy feel of Africa with modern comforts and unparalleled luxury. At only 25 guest chalets, the lodge is also small and has an intimate feel, so strangers quickly become friends. Read on for a more detailed description of the guest chalets and main Lodge below under Accommodations!
Be sure to enjoy a sundowner around the campfire before dinner. Sunset at Soroi is especially magical, as the lodge views face due West. A sinking sun spills gold over the Ndaho valley until it melts into purple oblivion on the Western horizon, a moment of such splendor it will rival the most impressive Serengeti memory you take home from your entire safari trip. Once the last glow of sunset has finally faded, and the stunning views of the valley below have been cloaked by the black of night, the sensory experience is transformed from a visual one into an auditory one as lions roar and hyenas sound their bloodcurdling wails in the darkness all around you.
The Serengeti Soroi is much more than a lodge in the Serengeti. It is an experience. And we can't wait to share it with you!
Guest accommodations consist of 25 luxury guest chalets, which all boast the highest standard of luxury and comfort. The chalets are a combination of tented canvas and wooden walls, glass sliding doors and hardwood floors. A framework of heavy fig beams supports the canvas walls and a ceiling of thatch, while deep mahogany wooden floors span the large interior space. The west wall of each chalet is nothing but view...floor to ceiling glass windows that beckon you outside to experience the private veranda.
The most prominent feature of each room is the large four poster canopy bed draped in luxurious imported linens. Sleeping quarters are further defined with thoughtful details such as end tables, a writing desk and plenty of lighting. The en suite bathroom glistens with a giant porcelain soaking tub, granite countertops and dual vestibule sinks. The west wall of the bathroom boasts more floor to ceiling glass walls that face outside towards the same stunning views, and a glass door escapes to an outdoor rainfall shower that offers the ultimate exotic luxury. Oversized bath towels, plush terry robes, hairdryers, luxury toiletries and even slippers have been thoughtfully included to enhance your comfort.
Out of the 25 total guest chalets, there are 5 suite chalets and 20 standard chalets. The main difference between the two room categories is that the suite chalets have a separate sitting area or living room furnished with a couch, coffee table, flat screen television (Satellite reception) and an in-room fridge. Additionally, the suite chalets have larger private balconies and are positioned for the best views. In both categories of rooms, triple chalets are available (1 double bed + 1 single bed) suitable for 2 adults and 1 child.
The main Lodge area, situated at the top of the hill, is simply spectacular. Masterfully designed into the natural surroundings of rocks and fig trees, the main Lodge offers guests a lounge, library, tea and coffee station, and a fantastic two-tier dining room that doubles as a game viewing deck. The main lounge and upper dining floor are protected by a canopy of wood and thatch. An outdoor veranda spills the living spaces outside and boasts a lovely bonfire in the evenings accompanied by snacks to help celebrate the stunning sunset views. The upper tier of the veranda swings out to a dual sun deck and sparkling infinity swimming pool with waterfall. Wireless internet is also available in the main lounge and library.
