We saw just about all of the animals that you can see in Tanzania. We saw thousands of zebra, buffalo and wildebeests, hundreds of elephants, giraffes and antelope. We also saw about 60 lions (32 in one day), 7 leopards and 6 cheetahs! The number of animals was astounding. My goal for this trip was to get a picture of a leopard in a tree. As you can see from the pictures we saw several leopards and I got my great picture! Our favorite encounter was the male lion that visited the watering hole by Swala camp while we were having dinner, then roaring to his pride as he left – what an experience!
We enjoyed the Serengeti the best. We especially like the Northern part of Serengeti. We loved the wilderness of the Serengeti – less cars and animals that were not as used to people, which seems much more natural to us.
Our driver, Martin was excellent. He could spot animals while driving that we couldn’t spot when he was pointing them out to us! He was very knowledgeable about the animals, birds, plants and trees and was great at explaining it all to us. We very much enjoyed our ten days with him.
The accommodations were terrific and the food was excellent. Our favorite Lodge was the Ngorongoro Crater Lodge. We have never stayed in such a luxurious hotel before. The hot bubble bath when we returned from a game drive was excellent and the service could not be beat. Our favorite tented lodge was Swala Tented Camp. It was truly being there with the animals. To be in a tent and hear the lions roaring outside is an experience not to be missed. The food and service at Swala was also top notch.
This trip certainly ranks up with the best vacations we have had. We have been to many wonderful places, but Tanzania ranks in the top two or three places we have been, along with Antarctica and the Galapagos Islands. It is a wonderful experience to see the animals in the wild interacting with each other and the environment in a beautiful and natural setting. We could not believe the number of animals that we saw.
We are also very glad that we chose a private safari so that we could do what we wanted, when we wanted to do it. Martin was great and all of the lodges and camps made us feel like royalty. We would recommend Africa Dream Safaris to anyone who wants to travel to Tanzania.
