My daughter, Layla, and I have just returned from a 13 day safari. It was one of the best experiences of my life. We fell in love with the Serengeti, with its changing scenery and variety and abundance of wildlife. Starting our safari there was a really positive introduction. Every new sighting throughout the safari was special for a different reason, and even just listing highlights is almost impossible. At times we got really close to various animals including two sleepy lions, we could literally have reached out and touched an elephant that walked past our vehicle, baboons climbed onto the vehicle and monkeys stole food from us. The experience of being in the middle of a huge herd of wildebeest was awesome, and it was absolutely amazing to watch a cheetah hunt and kill a wildebeest while her three cubs waited obediently and patiently nearby.

Our driver guide was Wilfred Fue. We could not have wished for a better guide, he was brilliant. The extent and depth of his knowledge was amazing, as was his ability to spot animals even when they were well hidden or at a distance. He was incredibly patient in directing to us where to look for the animals he had found, in stopping for numerous photographs, and in answering all our questions. He was unfailingly polite and friendly, and we were confident that that we were in safe hands even when well off the beaten track. His guidance made the safari truly excellent.

We had tried to select a range of different types accommodation, and were certainly not disappointed in the variety in style, setting and ambience. All were very welcoming, particularly our hosts at Swala tented lodge. This was no doubt the most authentic safari style lodge we stayed at. Being escorted to and from our tent by a Masai warrior was a novel experience, as was the need to lock the tent flaps not to prevent human intrusion but to keep the monkeys out. However, our favourite lodges were the Serena lodges at Serengeti and Ngorongoro, both of which were beautifully presented, and provided great food and service.

From my first contact with Sharon at Africa Dream Safaris everyone has been patient, professional and friendly. I have been impressed with the smoothness of the operation, particularly as the itinerary was individually designed and as we made many changes in the initial weeks of planning. Sharon made everything so easy for us – the hardest part has been selecting only 20 photos from the more than 1500 we took! A safari was something I had dreamed about doing for many years, and this trip absolutely fulfilled those dreams. To anyone thinking of going on a safari, my advice would be “Just do it!” And to make sure you get a really great safari, do it with ADS.
