Lodge Overview

Nestled at the foot of Makoma Hill in the Central Serengeti, in a fantastic location far off the beaten path, nine (9) secluded safari tents line a grassy pathway winging out from either side of a main dining tent and lounge. This semi-permanent venue called Lemala Seronera Camp offers the ideal location to witness the stunning resident wildlife of the Central Serengeti.

Lemala Seronera Camp is definitely one of a kind here in the Central Serengeti, being one of the only small tented lodges serving as a base to game-drive this part of the Serengeti ecosystem, and offers a feeling of authentic seclusion that simply cannot be duplicated. And - true to Lemala's philosophy for all its camps - this property is all about LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION! Lemala Seronera Camp offers easy access to the teeming wildlife of the Central Serengeti - including Makoma Hill, Seronera River Valley, Moru Kopjes, Maasai Kopjes and Sametu.

It is not uncommon to see zebra, gazelle and giraffe streaming across the open Makoma plain right in front of the Camp, and a large resident lion pride can be regularly seen at the nearby Makoma kopjes or perhaps heard roaring after dark. The area is also one of the best places in the Central Serengeti to spot cheetah, as they thrive in open grassy areas such as the Makoma plain that lies directly in front of the Camp. Leopards can also sometimes be spotted prowling in the acacia tree forest that covers Makoma Hill behind the camp, and can certainly be spotted at the Seronera River Valley just a few minutes away. The Seronera River Valley is arguable the most famous region of the Serengeti and renowned for supporting a high density of big game no matter what time of year it is or where the migratory animals might be located.

Lemala Seronera Camp, like all the Lemala Camp properties, is "semi-permanent", meaning it is actually taken down for during part of the year for maintenance. Because of its mobile nature, Lemala Camp does not have many of the established fixtures you might find at other permanent camps and lodges such as swimming pools, elaborate structures, or even underground plumbing. However, the staff here do a remarkable job in making everything extremely comfortable and offering guests a level of luxury that will suit the most discerning of travelers. This considerable effort shows up in the smallest of details, such as shimmering chandeliers over the dining room table, a fully stocked liquor cabinet, four-course gourmet meals, and hot showers made to order.

The flicker of torches lights the dark pathways in the evenings and invite you to the Lodge's common areas for sundowners and fire-side chats. The size of the camp gives it an inherently cozy feel and strangers quickly become friends. Guests join one another around a brilliantly lit bonfire in the evenings for drinks, and then feast together by candlelight around a big timber dining table. The oversized dining tent shares a roof with the lounge and sitting area, which is furnished by overstuffed couch cushions, coffee tables, and a fully stocked liquor cabinet.

Guests are escorted by arrow-wielding Maasai warriors back and forth from their tents to the common areas as needed. Lemala Ewanjan's special location, intimate size, and attention to detail make it one of the very best choices for accommodations in the Central Serengeti.

Location

With all Lemala Camps, it's ALL about location! And Lemala Seronera Camp is no exception. Lemala Seronera Camp is tucked at the base of Makoma Hill, with the Hill rising behind the camp and a stunning view of the open plain directly in front of the camp. Each evening the camp is bathed in the warm glow of the setting sun as it sinks on the Western horizon.

There are very few options for small, tented venues in the Central Serengeti ecosystem so the emergence of Lemala Seronera Camp fills a special niche. Within minutes of leaving the camp (or sometimes not leaving the camp at all!) guest have the opportunity to witness the thick populations of resident wildlife that thrive in the Central Serengeti ecosystem. The Central Serengeti describes a region of the ecosystem where the great plains of the south and east meet the woodlands of the north and west. The location of the camp offers guests a fantastic view of the open Makoma plain that stretches out in front of the property.

Accommodations

The main Lodge Tent includes a comfy lounge with oversized couches, liquor cabinet, dining tent and nearby fire-pit. Sleeping accommodations at Lemala Camp consist of just nine oversized luxury tents under canvas. The tents are arranged at ground level on wooden platforms with stylish rugs. The tents can be arranged to accommodate single or double beds. Each tent is elegantly appointed with a quaint writing desk, storage trunks, a coffee station, and two bedside tables complete with candle-lamps. At the back of each safari tent is an enclosed en suite bathroom complete with a dressing area, proper flushing toilet, vanity and sink with running water, and a safari style shower that can be filled with up to 40 liters of hot water upon request. The tents are comfortably spaced apart from one another to ensure relative privacy. You will be escorted by the camp staff to and from dinner each evening to assure your safety.

Access

Lemala Seronera Camp is located at the base of Makoma Hill, approximately 20 minutes from the Seronera Airstrip in the Central Serengeti. A stay at Lemala Seronera Camp is usually incorporated into our fly in and drive back itineraries. Depending on the time of year, you may fly in to the Seronera airstrip or you may be arriving via road from either the North Serengeti or the Western Corridor.

Food & Drink

Get ready for serious gourmet in the bush! Meals at Lemala Seronera Camp are absolutely fantastic. Breakfast consists of a mixed buffet with orders taken for eggs, omelets, bacon, toast, etc. The buffet consists of yogurt, nuts, cereal, breads, fruit and juice. Alternatively, breakfast boxes can be arranged for early morning game drives. Similarly to breakfast, you have your choice of dining in the main tent for lunch or enjoying a lunch box if you plan a full day adventure game drive. The choice is yours - this is YOUR private safari, after all!

Dinner is a wonderful event to look forward to at Lemala Seronera Camp, and it is one of the few places where everyone joins together for a family-style dinner at one long dinner table (guests may request a private table if they choose). Usually the mingling with other guests starts over sundowners around a roaring campfire while the camp staff arranges a feast for you in the main dining tent nearby. Once everything is prepared the staff comes out to the campfire to "collect" all the guests from the fireside and lounge areas and seats everyone around an elegant candle-lit table set with weighty silverware and crystal and draped in fine linen. Dinner consists of four delicious courses with the main course being a choice of either chicken, beef, lamb or pasta.

Most beverages including soft drinks, beer, house wine and selected spirits are complimentary at Lemala Seronera Camp.
