Lodge Overview

Nestled in an open acacia grove far off the beaten path, secluded and stylishly decorated safari tents line a grassy pathway leading from a main dining tent and lounge at Woodlands Camp. This semi-permanent venue offers the ideal location to witness the Serengeti's premier event during the heart of the green season... the Great Migration. The consistent draw, aside from the Camp's charming atmosphere, is its superb and beautiful location. This area boasts some of the most beautiful acacia woodlands to be found on the fringe of the expansive Serengeti plains, and stunning visions of these quintessential African trees silhouetted against a vivid sunset or sunrise will surely linger in your memory for a long time to come. Don't be surprised if at times the wildlife simply comes to you! You may witness entire families of elephants gliding along the nearby plains, or see giraffe delicately nibbling on the surrounding umbrella trees. Keep an eye out for the iridescently hued lovebirds that often flit in the sunlight of the open-air dining tent. And listen for the deep throb of lions roaring under a profusion of stars as you share safari stories around a roaring bonfire.

Location

This bush camp is located partially up the southern slopes of Naabi Hill (the epicenter of the great migration during the green season) and offers splendid views of the main short grass plains of the Serengeti National Park. During the green season, the surrounding green plains are often peppered with hundreds of thousands of wildebeest and, with a little luck, you can see them directly from the campsite, a truly spectacular site!

Accommodations

Accommodations consist of just twelve (12) classic safari tents and two additional 2-bedroom family tents. Each tent is elegantly appointed with a quaint writing desk, storage trunks and two bedside tables complete with candle-lamps. At the back of each safari tent is an enclosed en suite bathroom complete with a dressing area, proper flushing toilet, vanity and sink with running water, a safari style shower that can be filled with up to 40 liters of hot water upon request and power outlets with 24-hour electricity. Wi-Fi is available in the common areas.

The camp is "semi-permanent," meaning it is actually taken down and moved to a different location at certain times of the year to follow the Great Migration. Because of its mobile nature, this camp does not have many of the more established fixtures you might find at other permanent camps and lodges. However, the staff here does a remarkable job in making everything is extremely comfortable and offer guests a level of luxury that will suit the most discerning of travelers. This considerable effort shows up in the smallest of details, such as the four-course gourmet meals and hot showers made to order.
