Sun Protection & Bugs

Another non photographic topic. Sort of. You are going to be standing up a lot as you drive around. The breeze feels good and you are going to always be on the lookout for animals. Remember this... you are on the equator. Sure, you'll have some cool safari looking clothing and hopefully a hat... but go beyond that. Outdoor stores like Cabela's, or even Amazon have SPF sun sleeves and fingerless gloves and bandanas. Fisherman who spend lots of time on the water use these. They're light and they can really make a difference in the African sun. Pull them on when you need them and remove them when you don't. They're light. I'm a California Beach Bum at heart... and I've gotten pretty burned over there. Besides, they can help with the bugs. Especially if you get into some Tsetse flies or mosquitos. Speaking of bugs... take the good stuff... the stuff with Deet in it. I'm not a big fan of Deet, but the military uses it and it works. Be prepared.
